Citations and sources
The pages AI answers link to, who owns them, and which ones you're missing from.
A citation is a URL an answer links to or names as a source. Onym keeps every one, in order, from the engine's own source list and from the answer text.
Citation rate
A page counts as yours when its domain is your domain, belongs to your brand, or is named after it. Citation rate comes with counts and a 95% range, like visibility.
Sources
The Sources page and List sources group citations by site. For each site you get:
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
answers |
Answers citing the site |
share |
Those answers as a share of all answers |
with_you |
Answers citing it that also name you |
gap |
Answers citing it that name a tracked competitor but not you |
trend |
new, up, down or flat against the previous period |
urls |
The site's most-cited pages |
Source types
Every site gets one type, so you can see what kind of evidence AI assistants lean on:
| Type | Examples |
|---|---|
| Yours | Your own site and docs |
| Competitor | A tracked competitor's site |
| UGC & community | Reddit, Stack Overflow, GitHub, YouTube |
| Reviews & directories | G2, Capterra, Product Hunt |
| Reference | Wikipedia, MDN, npm, PyPI |
| Editorial & other | Blogs, news and everything else |
The gap view
view=gap keeps only third-party sites that are cited in answers naming a competitor but not you, sorted by how often. These are the pages shaping answers you're missing from, and the best outreach targets. Find outreach targets walks through it.
