Benchmark competitors

Compare your visibility with the brands you compete with, overall and per surface.

Replace YOUR_API_KEY with a key from Settings → API and MCP. Keys are shown once when you create them.

1. Choose who to track

On the Competitors page, add the brands you actually lose deals to. Onym also lists untracked brands that answers name often; track any that belong in the comparison.

Tracked brands feed share of voice, gaps and opportunities. Tracking one later fills in its history from answers Onym already has.

2. Read the benchmark

The table ranks you and every tracked competitor by visibility, with each brand's 95% range, share of voice, average position and change. Two brands whose ranges overlap aren't meaningfully different, whatever their order.

3. Compare surfaces

A competitor can lead overall and still be absent from one assistant. Use the surface filter, or pull every surface at once:

Visibility by surface
import requests

API = "https://getonym.com/api/v1/domains/acme.example"
H = {"Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"}

surfaces = requests.get(f"{API}/metrics", headers=H).json()["surfaces"]
for s in surfaces:
    brands = requests.get(f"{API}/competitors", headers=H, params={"surface": s["key"]}).json()["brands"]
    top = ", ".join(f"{b['name']} {b['visibility']['rate']:.0%}" for b in brands[:3])
    print(f"{s['label']:<22} {top}")

4. Watch the trend

Get a time series returns visibility per run for you and your top eight competitors. The competitor change type, in the Changes feed and the change.detected webhook, tells you when one of them moves significantly.
