Find outreach targets

Turn the pages AI assistants cite into a list of places to get mentioned.

Replace YOUR_API_KEY with a key from Settings → API and MCP. Keys are shown once when you create them.

AI answers lean on a small set of pages: review sites, forum threads, "best of" lists. When those pages mention your competitors and not you, the answers do the same. The gap view finds them.

1. Find the gap sources

In the dashboard, open Sources and choose Gap sources. Or call the API:

List gap sources
curl -G https://getonym.com/api/v1/domains/acme.example/sources \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY" \
  -d view=gap -d range=90d

Each row is a third-party site cited in answers that name a tracked competitor but not you. gap is how many; urls are its most-cited pages.

2. Read the pages

Open the top URLs. For each, note what kind of page it is and whether you could reasonably appear on it:

Source type Usually means What to do
Reviews & directories A listing or comparison you're missing from Claim or create your profile; ask customers for reviews
UGC & community A thread where people recommend tools Answer helpfully, as a person, with a disclosure
Editorial & other A "best of" list or review Pitch the author with something new: data, a feature, a customer story
Reference Wikipedia or docs Make sure facts about you are accurate and sourced

3. Track the work

Sites cited in at least two gap answers also appear as earned opportunities, each with a playbook for that kind of site. (Opportunities also include owned ones: content to publish on your own site.) Mark an opportunity in progress when you start, and shipped when the page mentions you. Onym then compares visibility on the prompts it targets before and after, so you can tell which outreach moved AI answers.

4. Check the trend

Sources have a trend against the previous period. A new source in the gap view is often a fresh article worth pitching while it's still being updated.
